Tech Retreats in The Catskill Mountains

It’s becoming more and more common for tech companies to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the digital world and get back to nature. Recently, Shandelee Lake Inn hosted the team from online shopping platform, Rosie, for a three day retreat in the Catskill Mountains. During their stay they enjoyed barbecue on our deck with lake views, fresh prepared omelets for breakfast, and French & Italian dinner from chef Ettore.

For those of you who haven’t yet met Rosie, here’s a little more info:

Top 5 Wedding Dress Trends Gone Eco-Chic for 2016

Love it or hate it, Wedding Season is here, and with, the pressure to find the perfect dress. With trends like laser print florals, backless dresses, and blush colored gowns, it can be a bit difficult to know which trends work best for you and to find a gown made from natural materials that incorporates the trends of today. We took to and found five designers who create wedding gowns using organic materials. In no particular order, let us begin.

1) Color

Over the past few years we have seen a departure from the traditional white dress. PureMagnoliaCouture, an etsy shop, takes this concept to a new level by incorporating a vibrant, floral print on the corset bodice of this gown. The bodice cinches in the waist in and draws the eye to the smallest part of the body, giving this gown a slimming effect. Made out of Organic cotton and a Vegan, Fully Boned Bodice, this gown costs around $1.2k. And did we mention that this gown comes in separates? So you can mix and match with PureMagnoliaCouture’s other designs to create a custom look for your wedding day.

2) Backless

Simka Sol is a bohemian style fashion design house located in Boston. This dress is very bohemian and features a deep v with a backless v in the back to compliment the front of the dress. The dress is made out of organic cotton, soy, and spandex. This gown costs $329, talk about a steal!

3) Tea Length

This dress was created by Tierra Ecologia and was made using Vintage Lace, Organic Merino wool, and Silk organza. This dress combines classic, vintage elements, with modern day touches by implementing the laser cut floral lace and the metallic ban under the bust.

4) Deep V

This dress looks like your typical wedding gown, except for the fact that this gown was made from organic cotton and hemp silk. Made by PureMagnoliaCouturethis dress is simple, yet stunning. Its design allows it to be worn by a woman of any shape or size, and the subtle rouching on the bust allows this dress to draw more attention towards the face.

5) Crop Top

This gown combines two trends, laser cut lace and crop tops. We love how elegant this gown looks and that it is made of organic cotton. Made by WearYourLoveXOwe love how the lace detailing scallops all around the perimeter of the dress.

10 Best Wedding Photos of 2015

Every year since 2008, Junebug Weddings releases a list of the best wedding pictures captured. For 2015, they received an astounding 10,000 entries from photographers all around the world. They selected 50 winners, and we narrowed that list down to our top ten favorite shots. So, in no particular order, let us begin.

Junebug 1

This shot was taken by Jesse van Kalmthout from Jesse Van Kalmthout Footgrafie. We love how the bride beams in her new groom’s arms as their guests make a toast to a successful marriage and ever lasting love.

Junebug 2

This photo was taken by Cole Roberts from Nordica Photography. The soft hues of the sky mixed with the bride’s golden dress is simply stunning. It appears as if the couple can reach out their hands and touch one of those fluffy, overcast clouds.

Junebug 3

Talk about an epic celebration! The rain of glitter looks magical in this shot which was taken by Tien Phan of Phan Tien Photography.

Junebug 6

We love the natural scenery that is showcased in this shot. And we love how the veil is blown up with the wind, we can almost smell the fresh mountain air. This shot was taken by Gabe McClintock of Gabe McClintock Photography.

Junebug 8

Jim Pollard of Jim Pollard Goes Click must have been thrilled after he saw this shot, we know we were. This couple looks as if they have emerged from a fairy tale.

Junebug 9

Golden hour is one of the most magical moments to capture, and Danielle Bohane of Danielle Bohane Photography did just that with this photo. Everything about this photo is a home run: the dress, the sun ray shining through as the couple kisses, and of course the subtle use of the rule of thirds, no wonder this image was selected!

Junebug 10

Taken by Peter Lee of Plus One Photography, this photo tells an epic story. The dome even reminds us of BB-8, from Star Wars, a little bit. And the sunset that was captured is simply stunning.

Junebug 12

Captured by Christina Lee of Christina Lee Photography, this image is not as epic as the others, but in its understated beauty it captures the shared between this couple as they gaze into one another’s eyes. Did we mention that we also love the reflection of the loving couple on the ground below?

Junebug 13

This image feels like it is straight from a Taylor Swift music video. From the dress, which appears to be T-Swift’s signature crop top paired with a long skirt combo, to the groom standing in just his trousers, which kind of reminds us of a scene straight out of “Style”, we cannot get over how incredible this image is. Bravo Dylan Howell of Dylan M Howell Photography, you should come photograph a few weddings at our Inn in 2016.

Junebug 15

This stunning photo was capture by JD Land from Twisted Oaks Studios. There is so much going on in this shot, and we love how everyone has a sparkler. It reminds us that a wedding is a celebration of love, and not just another ordinary day.

On behalf of the staff and crew of the Shandelee Lake Inn, we would like to extend our congratulations to all of the couples and photographers who were featured on Junebug Weddings. And if you are looking for a scenic wedding venue, consider booking Shandelee Lake Inn for your lakeside wedding. You can reach us by e-mailing us at or by calling 718.720.0900.

8 Organic Make-Up Brands to Complete your Wedding Look

To a bride, a wedding is the day she has been waiting for for her entire life – she is finally going to marry the prince or princess of her dreams. During the hustle and bustle of planning out your special day, some brides don’t have the time to research eco-friendly make-up that won’t compromise their conscious. Lucky, we have you covered.

Organic make-up is make-up that is not tested on animals and is made from all natural minerals and materials (like fruits and flowers).

1) The best known organic make-up brand is Bare Escentuals, they revolutionized the make-up industry when the first emerged with their line Bare Minerals in 2004, and this concealer palette is no exception. The “Secret Weapon” has two different shades in order to help you get the closest match to your skin tone as you use this concealer to make your stunning eyes pop for your special day.

2) The “Camouflage Kit” from Glo Minerals may seem a little wacky at first, but there is a method to their madness. The yellow color is for covered things like under eye circles and dark spots. The purple color is for deep under eye circles and a sallow complexion. The mint green color is for covering blemishes and red blotches. And the neutral color is for minor ache. This is an essential to any mark on your face that regular concealer cannot cover up on its own.

3) Josie Marian has made a career off of being a luxury make-up brand for those who are economically conscious. What we love about their “Argan Beautiful Eyes” is the intensity of color that they are able to achieve. And we love that this is made with organic argan oil which is really good for your skin. This eye shadow is even paraben free!

4) Sundos and Silk from Etsy, is an independent organic make up company located in California. This makeup primer BB cream is made from some incredible ingredients! Made from kaolin clay, arrowroot powder, organic primrose oil, and beeswax, in addition to giving you even coverage, this bb cream is nourishing for your skin.

5) Clear Faced Cosmetics on Etsy, is a vegan makeup brand from the midwest. This foundation powder and mixing medium comes in three different shades and is made from all natural materials. What we love about this is the mixing medium which comes with a choice of CC cream or BB cream, these creams are both known for correcting your skin tone and giving the wearer a more natural look. It doesn’t like as if you have caked on a pound of makeup, your face looks fresh all day (as long as you lock the look in with translucent powder or a locking mist).

6) Erzulie Cosmetics is also from Etsy, and they are changing the game with their organic lipstick. You can either get their bold color “Jenny” or go with something more subdued with their “Ballerina Girl” color.

7) These lashes from Moonlight Feather from Etsy are fierce. Made from mink fur and cruelty free feathers, these lashes are made by hand. They come in many different styles, but these Mink Eyes are our favorite.

8) You can prep your entire look with this Coastal Scents shea with coca butter. 100% natural and for under $20, this is the perfect way to start your make up regimen for your special day.

We hope these beauty products will help make creating your look for the day easier. We did a lot of research to find the perfect eco-chic make up products on the market. Let us know what you think in the comments below. And if you are looking for a venue for your upcoming wedding, why not choose the Shandelee Lakeside Inn?

Top 7 Dresses for a Lake Chic Wedding

Struggling to find the perfect dress for your lake chic wedding? Well we have a few suggestions right from the Runway. As you know, Resort 2016 collections were unveiled last month and we have selected our favorite pieces to help you find your perfect dress for your lakeside wedding here at Shandelee Lake Inn. Lake Chic is quickly catching on here in the Catskills as many rustic brides are flocking to the area for the economically conscious nuptials.

2) Oscar De La Rena turned heads this runway season with his mini dress. A nice twist on the traditional wedding gown, this party dress is sure to be a hit on your special day, and the silk flowers #stunning.

3) Marchesa showcased this dreamy gown that we think is picturesk for a fairy tale lake chic wedding. The corset bodice is on trend for 2016, and the satin ribbon around the smallest part of this gown’s waist, emphasizes a bride’s curves. This gown is from Marchesa’s Spring 2016 collection.

4) Are gowns not your speed? Then Monique Lhuilier has got you covered. This white jumpsuit screams too cool for school, and the high waist creates the illusion of legs that go on for miles.

5) Christian Siriano’s floor length, metallic, champaign gown with shoulder cut-outs was a show stopper during his runway show. Not only did he incorporate the cutout trend in a creative way, but this fabric is absolutely stunning!

6) Also playing with cutouts is Marchesea with this oblique cut out gown from their Resort 2016 collect. The lace detailing and backless silhouette are just a few reasons why we find this gown to be lake chic.

7) Monique Lhuilier took a nod at the hugely popular bohemian trend for Fall 2016 and created this gown with red flower detailing along upper portion of this gown. The gown has a high end maxi dress feeling, and it just looks so comfortable.

Tell us which one of these Resort 2016 looks were your favorite in the comments below. And if you are looking for a lake chic venue for your wedding, Shandelee Lake Inn would love to be that special place for your special day.

5 Quotes on Marriage from the Same-Sex Marriage Decision

ChezThe Supreme Court has affirmed that the Constitution grants people of the same sex the right to marry. The Court’s decision brought joy and relief to millions of Americans. It was a moment to celebrate.

We originally saw this post on’s blog and really wanted to share these powerful quotes with you, for they truly illustrate what true love is all about. Shandelee has always been a strong supporter of LGBT couples, we share in the joy that they feel with this ruling.

Here are five quotes on marriage from the decision by Justice Anthony Kennedy in Obergefell v. Hodges:

“The nature of marriage is that, through its enduring bond, two persons together can find other freedoms, such as expression, intimacy, and spirituality. This is true for all persons, whatever their sexual orientation.”

“Marriage is sacred to those who live by their religions and offers unique fulfillment to those who find meaning in the secular realm. Its dynamic allows two people to find a life that could not be found alone, for a marriage becomes greater than just the two persons. Rising from the most basic human needs, marriage is essential to our most profound hopes and aspirations.”

“Marriage responds to the universal fear that a lonely person might call out only to find no one there. It offers the hope of companionship and understanding and assurance that while both still live there will be someone to care for the other.”

“Marriage remains a building block of our national community. For that reason, just as a couple vows to support each other, so does society pledge to support the couple, offering symbolic recognition and material benefits to protect and nourish the union.”

“No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.”

These quotes really tug at our heart strings and reminded us why we love working in the wedding business.
